Arable

Arable

The arable processing industry is divided into three main sectors: grain for processing for human consumption, barley for the malting industry, and feedgrains for animal feedstuffs. The industry is localised primarily in Canterbury, which produces 80 percent of the total crop, but production is significant in Southland, Otago, Manawatu, Hawke's Bay and the Waikato. Arable farms usually run a variable but significant number of livestock, including sheep, beef cattle, dairy cattle or deer.
