Appendix 1 - A summary of reviewed literature
The following points are key issues which have emerged for this study following the search conducted of contemporary research literature. They are reviewed critically in terms of academic debates and directions for further study in the research report associated with this study (see Liepins and Campbell 1997, Chapter 2).
- agricultural sustainability as a social and discursive ideal as well as an economic and environmental goal
- agricultural science and other forms of knowledge
- agri-food theory and its application to studies of sustainability, green consumerism and environmentalism
- contrasting debates surround global food regimes and agri-food networks
- commentaries on the development of organic agriculture in New Zealand
- decision making and power relations within agricultural sectors
- gender analyses of farming systems and organic and environmental issues
- discursive approaches to rural research and their relevance to assessing knowledge and decision making in organic agriculture.
