Acknowledgements

The overall research project has been funded by the Foundation for Research, Science and Technology's Public Good Science Fund. Their ongoing support is allowing this programme to develop into one of the most comprehensive studies of internal migration undertaken in New Zealand. The analysis in this paper is funded by the Ministry of Agriculture. and we would particularly like to acknowledge the support and interest of Dr. Ann Pomeroy, in her work with us

The Family Centre Social Policy Research Unit would particularly like to acknowledge the efforts of all of our fieldworkers in the resource survey teams, over the past four years; Kasia, Jo, Steve, Moana, Kitrina, and Te Wairata have all consistently operated at a high standard, despite spending a considerable length of time away from home and families. The response rates of over 70% and 80% speak to the skill and professionalism with which the interviews were delivered.

The most important people in any research are the participants, the people who give their time and knowledge. We would therefore like to offer our thanks and appreciation to all those people we visited in the towns in the Southern Wairarapa, Northern Waikato/Coromandel and South Island, and to those who took the time to answer the survey. It is our hope that this research can make a real contribution to policies that affect them, and the rest of New Zealand.

Finally, we would like to acknowledge the support and input of all the staff at the Family Centre, in this and in all the other work of the Family Centre Social Policy Research Unit. Their broad range of experience and knowledge underpins this research.

While deeply appreciative of the input of all those people and organisations named above, the analysis and findings given in this report are the responsibility of the Family Centre Social Policy Research Unit.
