Building Resilience

6.  The consultation process

This consultation, along with the discussion document, forms an important part of the Review of the On-farm Adverse Events Recovery Framework. The consultation process aims to promote debate to ensure the recovery framework is robust, pragmatic and understood. The consultation also aims to promote the importance of adverse event planning and awareness.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has undertaken initial consultation with industry groups and local government. The feedback from this initial consultation has helped develop this discussion document, and has also been incorporated into other MAF work programmes, such as improving adverse event reporting systems.

MAF is holding public consultation meetings throughout the country during October 2006. These meetings will be an opportunity for farmers and growers to learn more about the issues and options identified in this discussion document.

MAF welcomes written submission in response to this document, as well as comments on specific issues of the adverse events recovery framework. Submissions close on 31 October 2006.

A report on the outcome of the consultation process, and recommendations on refining the recovery framework, will be submitted to Cabinet by the end of 2006.
