Transport Amendment Act Takes Force
Drivers travelling at 40 kilometres per hour over the speed limit will lose their drivers' licence for a month under legislation which came into effect during the second half of January. The Land Transport Amendment Act also lowered the threshold for blood alcohol from 160 to 130 milligrams per 100 millilitres of blood. And anyone convicted of drink driving three times loses their license for just over a year, requiring them to resit their driving test. The Automobile Association supports the changes and is urging the government to promote them thoroughly to ensure that people do not get caught out.
