Standardising Consultation Time for Business

In a response to a 2004 report by the Small Business Advisory Group (SBAG) all of the government's economic development agencies are to adopt a 3-month gap between the issuing of consultation documents and the closing date for submissions. Likewise, there will be a 3-month delay between the introduction of new regulations and their implementation.

The SBAG report said small business invariably found it difficult to respond quickly to consultation documents and needed more time to adapt when new regulations were announced. The agencies which will implement the change are: the Ministry of Economic Development (MED), Industry and Regional Development, Broadcasting, Energy, Commerce, Tourism, Consumer Affairs, Communications, and Small Business.

The original SBAG report can be found at: http://www.med.govt.nz/irdev/ind_dev/sbag/ar/2004/2004.pdf. MED's Response to that report can be found at: http://www.med.govt.nz/irdev/ind_dev/sbag/govt/response-to-2004/response-to-2004.pdf
