On 1 August 2001, MAF introduced a requirement to test all consignments of sweet corn seeds imported into New Zealand for the presence of genetically modified (GM) seeds. We are proposing to extend the requirements to all Zea mays (maize, sweet corn and pop corn) and Brassica napus var. oleifera (canola and oilseed rape).

8 - An Analysis of Public Comments on the Sustainable Management Plans for the Beech/Podocarp Beech Production Forests of North Westland
This report summarises and analyses the submissions received by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry on Plans prepared by Timberlands West Coast Limited (TWC) for the sustainable management of Crown-owned beech forests in North Westland. The submission process did not have a statutory basis, but was designed to elicit the views of interested parties on the management provisions in the TWC Plans. The submission process was not intended as a referendum on the future of the beech forests. Many of the concerns raised by submitters were outside the scope of the TWC Plans. The report covers the range of concerns identified by submitters.
7 - Recovery of costs under the ACVM Act
This discussion document has been prepared in response to the Agricultural Compounds and Veterinary Medicines Act 1997 (ACVM Act) which will come into force on 1 October 1998. The objective of the document is to seek stakeholder comment and views on the proposed cost recovery programme to apply to the provision of services under the ACVM Act.

This document presents MAF's final proposal on Exemptions from registration under the ACVM Act. It gives a brief summary of the comments MAF received as part of its consultation and it presents the revised risk thresholds and the rules used to assess groups of agricultural compounds as suitable for exemption from registration.

The purpose of this document is to seek comment from interested and affected parties on the principles and approaches associated with making regulations to exempt agricultural compounds. Last date for feedback is 28 March 1998.
