Staff Numbers and Gender
As at 30 June 2007 the number of permanent MAF staff was 1600.3 full time equivalents (FTEs). This is an increase of 3 percent over the same time last year. Staff are located throughout the country, with the highest concentrations in the 3 main centres: Auckland 523 (FTEs), Wellington 622 and Christchurch 156.
The gender ratio in MAF is currently 46/54(female/male). This has not changed significantly over the past five years.
Length of Service
The average length of service for MAF staff is 8 years (6 years for female staff and 11 years for male staff). This has not changed significantly over the past 5 years. Currently 46 percent of staff have fewer than 5 years service; 25 percent between 5 and 10 years service; and 16 percent of staff between 10 and 20 years service. 13 percent of staff have over 20 years service.
Turnover
The turnover rate in MAF for the year ending 30 June 2007 was 10.3 percent. This compares to 9.6 percent for the previous year.
Age Ranges
The average age of MAF staff is 42 years (38 years for female staff and 45 years for male staff). This has not changed significantly over the past five years. Currently 17 percent of staff are aged under 30 years; 29 percent between 30 and 40 years; and 28 percent between 40 and 50 years. 26 percent of staff are aged over 50 years.
Ethnicity
The NZ European ethnic group continues to be the most dominant group within MAF at 61 percent. Other ethnic group breakdowns are:
Asian: 7 percent;
NZ Maori: 4 percent;
Other European: 13 percent;
Other Ethnic Groups: 1 percent and
Pacific Islands: 3 percent.
The ethnicity for 10 percent of staff remains undisclosed.
Salary
The average salary in MAF is $61,062 pa. This compares to $59,100 pa as at 30 June 2006. Currently 19 percent of staff are paid below $40,000 pa; 37 percent between $40,000 pa and $60,000 pa; 20 percent between $60,000 pa and $80,000 pa; and 15 percent between $80,000 pa and $100,000 pa. 8 percent of staff are paid above $100,000 pa.
