Sector Performance Policy
The Sector Performance Policy Group provides analysis and advice on issues affecting the performance of the agriculture, forestry and horticulture sectors, associated industries, and rural communities. The Groups focus is on the role of government in setting the environment for the production, processing and marketing of the sectors products, the impact of government policies on rural New Zealand, and the potential contribution of the sectors to growth and innovation in the New Zealand economy.
The Groups major tasks are providing policy options and advice for the government, working jointly with sectors, and developing legislation and regulations.
The focus is on:
- the interface of the sectors with wider government policy, especially policy on growth and innovation;
- business policies specific to the sectors (e.g., producer board legislation, forest industry development, Commodity Levies Act);
- general policies affecting people and businesses in rural communities and the performance of the sectors (e.g., education and skills, infrastructure, compliance costs).
