Meetings to help crop growers with Agricultural Recovery applications

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry is holding public meetings for crop growers affected by February’s flood event to explain the claims procedure for seeking recovery assistance to re-establish their crops, and to assist with applications.

The meetings will cover the details of the criteria and how actual costs will be used to establish assistance, rather than standard unit rates.
MAF’s Programme Administrator for the Agricultural Recovery Programme, Lynette Wharfe, says initial details of the recovery programme released showed that assistance was to be calculated on standard unit rates. Now they will be based on actual production costs, in response to grower concerns about how standard unit rates would work.

“The meetings will cover just how the details will work. Growers will be given information and a ‘Cost of Production’ template to be completed. They will also be given any assistance with completing the forms they require,” says Lynette Wharfe.

The meetings are being held at Opiki and Feilding as follows:

7 pm Tuesday September 7 – “The Barn”, Tane Street, Opiki

7 pm Wednesday September 8 – Denbigh Hotel, Manchester Street, Feilding
