OIA331 - New Zealand Fast Forward

These documents were released in response to an Official Information Act request relating to New Zealand Fast Forward.

Context of the New Zealand Fast Forward initiative

It is important to place the NZFF initiative in the context in which it was developed. The Government has been focusing on the importance of innovation for a considerable time. This includes the Food and Beverage Taskforce; engagement with the Primary Industry Leaders Forum; the OECD innovation review; and advice around the importance of the primary sectors to Economic Transformation.

A number of MAF briefings on the Food and Beverage Taskforce have been included. However, the Taskforce report and other key documents have been released already (the material can be found on the MED website at www.med.govt.nz/templates/ContentTopicSummary____462.aspx). The OECD review can be found at www.morst.govt.nz/publications/a-z/o/oecd-innovation-review/.

This context is important as it reflects the work that the Government has been doing over a long period of time to better understand the role of innovation in the primary sectors to drive sustainability and economic transformation and the support from the sectors for the government to work in partnership with them to make real progress in this area.

Inclusions and Withholdings from the OIA Request

Included are parts of briefings that have specifically referred to the Fast Forward initiative; the remaining parts of the briefings are out of scope. Drafts are not included. Sections of the reports have been withheld, under the Official Information Act 1982 for the following reasons:

  • To protect the privacy of natural persons (Section 9 (2) (a));
  • Because they are commercial-in-confidence (Sections 9 (2) (b) and 9 (2) (ba));
  • To ensure that they do not prejudice the international relations of the Government of New Zealand (Section 6 (a)); and/or
  • Because they are still under active consideration (Section 9(2) (f) (iv)).
