    The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF), Animal Welfare Investigation Team are pleased with the conviction in the Christchurch District Court last week to a farmer for the wilful ill-treatment of animals.
  • Forestry production and trade for the December 2007 quarter

    Total forestry export earnings for the December 2007 quarter were NZ$582 million, a decrease of NZ$77 million on the December 2006 quarter. Production of most forestry products were also down on the December 2006 quarter.

  • Deforestation Carbon Stock Tables

    The Government (MAF) has requested estimates of carbon stocks by stand age for various tree species and tending regimes in nine growth model regions. These carbon stock tables are intended to be used for the calculation of carbon emissions through deforestation.
  • 2007 Deforestation Survey

    Under the Kyoto Protocol New Zealand must account for emissions from deforestation that occurs during the period 2008-2012. Information on future rates of deforestation is needed to in order to assist in projecting New Zealand's likely balance of emission units over the first commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol and to assist with policy development.
